Three teenagers who killed man they believed was a paedophile have been detained for 19 years

The trio were convicted of manslaughter after a preplanned beach ambush that prosecutors said was filmed and shared online.

  • At the Old Bailey on Thursday, Judge Bobbie Cheema-Grubb sentenced three teenagers for the manslaughter of 49-year-old Alexander Cashford, imposing seven years on each 16-year-old and five years on the 15-year-old.
  • The group lured Cashford to a Leysdown-on-Sea beach on August 10, 2025, posing as a 16-year-old girl named 'Sienna' through around 75 messages. They attacked him with rocks and bottles after he met the girl at the seafront.
  • Video footage captured by the girl showed the assault, which Crown Prosecution Service prosecutors called a 'carefully pre-planned deliberate and violent attack.' Witnesses reported the group hurling large rocks at Cashford and kicking him while he lay on the ground.
  • Cashford's family stated the impact of his killing is 'impossible to put in words,' describing it as 'cruel, unnecessary and pointless.' Judge Cheema-Grubb called the event an 'appalling incident and senseless loss of life' involving 'dangerous misconduct.'
  • Kent Police detective sergeant Alastair Worton stated Cashford's life was cut short by teenagers who 'plotted to meet him under false pretences.' Defence lawyers argued all three defendants showed remorse for their actions despite the tragic outcome.
