Two Britons among three killed in Swiss Alps plane crash
All three passengers died, and federal authorities opened an investigation into the cause of the crash, police said.
On Tuesday, a Cirrus SR22T aircraft crashed into a north-facing slope in the Fluhalp area near Leukerbad, killing all three people aboard, according to Valais Cantonal Police.
Departing from Lugano, the single-engine plane made a stopover in Sion before continuing toward Buochs when it collided with the mountain slope about 10 minutes after takeoff, authorities reported.
Emergency crews deployed three helicopters to the scene following reports of smoke and flames, with officials confirming that two of the three deceased were British nationals.
Concurrent inquiries have been launched by the Swiss Safety Investigation Authority and the Office of the Attorney General, coordinating with Valais cantonal police to determine the accident's cause.
Officials from the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office confirmed they are "providing support to the families of two British nationals who died in Switzerland," remaining in contact with local authorities.
