Quilpituk Creek Wildfire Mapped at 742 Hectares
The blaze has forced 2,223 properties under evacuation orders and left about 1,500 BC Hydro customers without power, officials said.
- The Quilpituk Creek wildfire remains out of control at 742 hectares as of Wednesday. Burning north of Kelowna along Westside Road, the blaze continues to move northwest away from community areas.
- Evacuation orders for 2,223 properties affecting approximately 5,113 residents remain in place following the fire's discovery on Saturday. An additional 425 properties with 976 residents are on alert.
- Fire personnel and structure protection crews, supported by helicopters, are working to establish containment lines and danger tree assessments. Approximately 1,500 customers remain without power as crews manage active parts of the blaze.
- Support services at the Westbank Lions Community Centre reopened at 9 a.m. Wednesday, while emergency lodging remains available at the Royal LePage Place Arena and the Westbank First Nation gym.
- With the fire among 116 active wildfires in the region, Cliff Chapman with the Wildfire Service warned temperatures will rise to the mid-30s, with dry lightning forecast for Thursday.
