This Shreveport street was critically important to the Civil Rights Movement

Summary by Ground News
Sprague Street was built on a patch of ground at least 30 feet lower than the rest of downtown Shreveport. In 1902 a controversy arose when the material used to pave Sprague Street in the bottoms was strongly questioned. Sam Cooke was charged with disturbing the peace by attempting to stay at a white hotel in 1963. The old neighborhood name has been replaced with Ledbetter Heights.
