MADRID, April 9 (Xinhua) -- Alex Aranburu dug deep to win a thrilling fourth stage of the Tour of Basque Country cycle race Thursday, while overall leader Paul Seixas also extended his advantage.

The fourth stage of the Basque Country cycling tour (Galdakao - Galdakao; 167.2 km) was won by local favorite Alex Aranburu (Cofidis; 3:55.15). Frenchman Paul Seixas (Decathlon CMA CGM Team) remains the overall leader.

French cycling hopeful Paul Seixas put on another excellent performance at the Tour of the Basque Country. On the final descent of the demanding fourth stage, he escaped second-placed Primož Roglič and increased his lead in the overall standings by another 20 seconds. It now stands at two minutes and 19 seconds. He did not win the 167.2-kilometre stage, but took eighth place. The victory went to Spaniard Alex Aranburu.
