The River Road African American Museum in Donaldsonville has begun a large restoration project on the True Friends Hall. The building was built in the early 1900s by the True Friends Benevolent Association, a fraternal society of Black men in the community. it acted as a community hub until it closed in the 1980s, but it remains the oldest and largest existing benevolent society hall in Louisiana.
