The Odyssey Does the Unthinkable for Universal at Box Office
The film set records for Universal and IMAX 70mm and became the highest-grossing R-rated title ever, according to the studio.
- Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey" dominated the Korean box office for the 40th consecutive day over the Sept. 11-13 weekend, drawing 449,000 viewers after surpassing 10 million total admissions.
- The overall South Korean box office grossed $7.6 million over the weekend, declining from the previous week's $9.8 million as The Odyssey captured 51.5 percent of ticket sales.
- Horror film "Obsession" secured second place with 176,000 admissions, while superhero tentpole "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" slipped to third with 84,000 viewers, reaching 8.93 million cumulative admissions.
- Rounding out the top five, "The Drama" earned 29,000 admissions in fourth place, followed by local family road-trip drama "The Journey to Gyeongju" with 17,206 admissions in fifth.
- Universal Pictures leads all major studios with more than $4.92 billion in global revenue this year, with "The Odyssey" now standing as the studio's highest-grossing film ever at the worldwide box office.
