Lawyers for former Bosnian Serb army leader Ratko Mladić filed an urgent request with a UN war tribunal for humanitarian release in the days before his death, so that he could receive palliative care in Serbia. This is according to his lawyer, Dragan Ivetić. The tribunal rejected the request.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić asked the Hague Tribunal to allow Ratko Mladić to spend the last days of his life in Serbia, due to his severely impaired health, but his request was rejected, Belgrade media reported.
Ratko Mladić has requested release, citing two reasons: his likely imminent death and the large and constant presence of his family. But the court is showing no mercy.
Russia criticized the lack of impartiality and political motivation of the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) and its successor for refusing to grant conditional release to former Bosnian-Serbian military leader Ratko Mladic, whose death was confirmed today.
