The European Capital of Culture in Trenčín kicks off with a street festival and light art. Under the motto Awakening Curiosity, the Slovak city will place art in unusual locations. The opening of the ECOC will take place throughout the weekend.
A street festival and light art will kick off this year's European Capital of Culture (ECC) in Trenčín. Under the motto Awakening Curiosity, the Slovak city will offer a lively program and place art in unusual locations. The opening of the ECC will take place throughout the weekend, sharing the title with Oulu in Finland, the second ECC of the year.
The medieval castle above the town is the landmark of Trencin (Trencín). In the picture on the left is the Marian Column from 1712.
Trenčín, Slovakia, is an official European Capital of Culture for the year 2026, sharing the title with the city of Oulu in Finland, its programme focusing on the theme “Treasing and cultivating curiosity – A new story of the city under the castle” to encourage the dialogue, transformation and involvement of the community through art, events and the revitalization of public spaces.
