Crash Costs Canada’s Magdeleine Vallières Mill Repeat at Road Cycling Worlds
The reigning world champion was evaluated for right-side injuries after a multi-rider crash and left the race several minutes behind, Cycling Canada said.
- On Saturday, reigning world champion Magdeleine Vallieres Mill withdrew from the women's elite road race at the UCI Road World Championships in Montreal following a major crash.
- The 25-year-old Sherbrooke, Quebec, native was one of 15 riders caught in a pileup 94 km into the 180.1km course, an event marking the 1976 Summer Olympics anniversary.
- Despite visible injuries to her right thigh and elbow, Vallieres Mill attempted to rejoin the peloton alongside teammate Adele Normand before ultimately pulling out with 60km remaining.
- Cycling Canada announced the cyclist was transported to a hospital as a precaution, while Dutch rider Demi Vollering won the race in four hours and 45 minutes.
- Competition continues through Sunday in Montreal, which last hosted the world championships in 1974, as the event features 1,000 athletes from more than 75 countries.
