This Monday, 17 November, the NGO Bloom and the Think Tank The Shift Project publish an "unedited" balance sheet of carbon emissions from French fishing, which is heavily affected by fuel. The smallest vessels have the smallest impact, says the authors of the study, who return for "Libé" on their work.
A study, published this Monday, November 17, states that French fishing discards 1.14 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year, and highlights the "abyssal gap" between the various fishing vessels. The largest, 1% of the fleet, discharge one third of the greenhouse gas emissions from the sector.
The think tank The Shift Project and the Bloom association publish a complete carbon balance of the fishing sector. An unprecedented exercise that sheds light on the levers to be used to decarbonize this sector effectively.
