Stellantis to Invest €1 Billion in German Brand Opel
The automaker said at least four new models are planned, including Astra and Corsa successors on its STLA One platform.
- On Monday, Stellantis brand Opel announced plans to invest more than €1 billion in Germany by 2030, producing the next generation of its best-selling Astra compact car at the Ruesselsheim plant.
- This commitment follows last month's €60 billion strategic overhaul by Stellantis, which includes production partnerships with Chinese groups Leapmotor and Dongfeng to strengthen European operations.
- Both the future Astra and Corsa models will utilize the STLA One platform, designed to underpin a range of electrified vehicles across Stellantis brands including Fiat, Peugeot, and Jeep.
- Accounting for 30% of total car sales in Europe, the compact segment is a key part of Stellantis' strategy, Stellantis Europe chief Emanuele Cappellano said, underlining the focus on Germany.
- By the end of the decade, the carmaker plans at least four new models, including successors to the Astra and Corsa and a new compact SUV developed with Chinese partner Leapmotor.
