US Central Command, UAE to Launch Artifical Intelligence Task Force
The partnership aims to speed military AI testing and deployment as governments pour record sums into defense budgets, Reuters reported.
- On Tuesday, U.S. Central Command and the United Arab Emirates announced Task Force Talon Synapse, an Abu Dhabi-based unit launching in the "coming weeks" to accelerate military artificial intelligence development.
- The initiative has been in development since at least 2025, when CENTCOM Commander Brad Cooper discussed the concept with UAE National Security Advisor Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Nahyan.
- About 20 American and Emirati personnel specializing in AI, data, and cybersecurity will staff the Abu Dhabi-based unit, which aims to "foster innovation at speed and scale" for intelligence and infrastructure protection.
- The Commerce Department recently loosened export controls for the UAE, granting license-free access to advanced computing items while citing the country's "key role" during Operation Epic Fury, U.S.-Israeli strikes on Iran.
