Thames Water lifts hosepipe ban after four months

Heavy rainfall restored groundwater and reservoir levels, with Farmoor Reservoir reaching 90% capacity, allowing Thames Water to lift the four-month hosepipe ban.

  • On November 27, Thames Water removed the Temporary Use Ban at 7am after four months in OX, GL, SN, RG4, RG8 and RG9 postcode areas.
  • Several months of above-average rainfall helped restore groundwater and reservoirs, with November so far seeing 87mm, 12mm above the November 1–24 average, and Farmoor Reservoir at 90.
  • Operational measures including faster leak-fix and monitoring improved supply resilience, with Thames Water saying leaks are down 13.2% since 2020 and more than 50,000 acoustic loggers deployed.
  • Thames Water said it is pleased to lift the ban with immediate effect, thanked customers for water-saving, and urged continued conservation ahead of Summer 2026 while monitoring rainfall and groundwater over the coming months.
  • Thames Water aims to add 1.1 million smart meters by 2030 and up to 3 million by 2035, building on around 1.2 million meters already installed in London.
