Terrorist images found on Flydubai suspect’s social media
Sources said the Omani pilot was removed from training over extremist views before joining Flydubai, and he now faces a terrorism investigation.
On Wednesday, a pilot attacked another pilot aboard a Tel Aviv-bound Flydubai flight, prompting an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia where the suspect was taken into custody before transfer to the UAE.
Sources told CNN the suspect was removed from Oman Air last year following concerns about his extremist views, then reassigned within the airline before joining Flydubai eight months ago.
An Omani citizen born in the UAE to a Syrian mother, the suspect previously worked for Royal Air Maroc; Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday he was believed to have undergone Islamist radical indoctrination.
The suspect was transferred from Saudi Arabia to the UAE where he now faces a terrorism investigation, as Flydubai declined to comment pending the outcome.
Israeli officials confirmed the suspect's identity as CNN sought comment from Oman Air, Royal Air Maroc, and Dubai government media offices regarding his employment history across regional carriers.
