Tens of thousands of people protest in Germany against far-right AfD
About 150,000 demonstrators took to the streets in around 20 cities across Germany on Saturday against the far-right AfD, after the party scored a crushing victory in a state election last week. The Alternative for Germany (AfD) topped the vote in the eastern region of Saxony-Anhalt, and is now seeking to form the first extreme-right state government in Germany since World War II.
In more than 35 cities, people have taken to the streets this Saturday against right-wing extremism and for democracy. A central demand: to examine an AfD ban procedure.

People across Germany have taken to the streets in about 20 cities against right-wing extremism. The demonstrations follow the election victory of the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt.
Between 13,000 and 14,000 people were registered in Berlin, 20,000 in Düsseldorf and 5,000 in Leipzig (east).
