On Monday, the heat returned to the Czech Republic in full force after a milder weekend. Temperatures are once again rising to the 40s, and a historical record was broken in Moravia, when it was 39.9 °C in Strážnice before three o'clock.
In southern Moravia, five temperature records for August 1 fell on Saturday at stations that have been measuring for 30 years or more. The hottest was in Strážnice in the Hodonín region, where meteorologists measured 37.5 degrees Celsius. Petr Hruška from the Regional Forecasting Office of the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) in Brno told ČTK.
Temperature records were broken again in many places in the Czech Republic on Friday, and the heat increased the risk of fires, worsened the air quality and complicated rail transport.
