Tate Taylor Wins Triple Gold at World U20 Track and Field Champs; U.S. Breaks Medal Record
Taylor became the first American to complete the U20 sprint double and won the 200 by 0.48 seconds, officials said.
On Saturday, August 8, Tate Taylor and Mia Maxwell became the first athletes from the same country to sweep the 100- and 200-meter titles at the World Athletics U20 Championships.
Taylor captured the 200-meter final in a meet-record 19.83 seconds, while Maxwell claimed gold in 22.37, cementing their dominance during the five-day meet at Hayward Field.
University of Georgia teammates Madeline Cooper and Le'Ezra Brown swept the women's 100-meter and men's 110-meter hurdles, with Brown tying the world U20 record at 12.72.
Fellow American Blake Hamilton secured silver in the 200-meter, describing the result as 'surprisingly successful' after shifting focus to track just four months ago.
Following his record-breaking run, Taylor now targets the 2027 World Championships in Beijing and the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
