Susquehanna Valley State Senate Races
Democrats won control of the governor’s office and both chambers, giving them unified power to advance minimum wage, transit and abortion-rights priorities.
On Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Pennsylvania Democrats secured a legislative "trifecta" by flipping the state Senate, gaining control of both chambers and the governor's office for the first time in more than three decades.
Republicans had held the state Senate since 1994, but voters in this midterm election elected four Democrats to seats previously held by the GOP, ending the party's 32-year grip on the chamber.
Key victories in Senate Districts 6, 16, 24, and 40 propelled the Democratic majority, as candidates Eileen Hartnett Albillar, Mark Pinsley, Chris Thomas, and Brian Wrightson defeated Republican incumbents despite heavy spending from GOP-aligned political action committees.
With full control, Governor Shapiro and Democratic leaders aim to advance long-stalled priorities, including raising the state's minimum wage to $15, codifying reproductive rights, and securing recurring funding for the chronically underfunded SEPTA transit system.
This victory strengthens Shapiro's political standing ahead of a potential 2028 presidential bid, allowing his administration to implement an ambitious policy agenda that was previously blocked in the legislature.
