The Bureau of the European Parliament decided on Monday to ban former MEPs from lobbying the Parliament for a period of six months from the end of their mandate, as a first measure in response to “Qatar”.

“Following approval by the leaders of the political groups in Parliament of the reform plan proposed by President (Parliament) Roberta Metsola, the Bureau adopted the first enforcement decision reviewing the rules applicable to former MEPs,” reads a statement.

Several months after suspicions of corruption in the European Parliament and the indictment of MEPs, the Bureau now prohibits former MEPs from engaging in lobbying until six months after the end of their mandate.
