Surrey man arrested in Vernon after fleeing police, hitting spike belt
Police used a spike belt to stop the vehicle, and the 23-year-old Surrey driver now faces several potential criminal charges.
- On Saturday, July 11, Vernon North Okanagan RCMP successfully arrested a suspect following a high-speed vehicle pursuit that ended near Predator Ridge Resort.
- The incident began around 6 p.m. when police received a report regarding a suspicious vehicle on 25th Avenue; an officer attempted a traffic stop on 24th Avenue, but the driver fled dangerously.
- Rather than engaging in a high-speed pursuit, officers flooded the area for containment; an RCMP Police Dog Service team assisted as officers pre-emptively deployed a spike belt near Predator Ridge.
- The vehicle struck the spike belt and was immediately disabled, allowing officers to safely take the 23-year-old man from Surrey into custody without incident; he faces multiple criminal charges.
- He remains in custody following his arrest on Saturday and was expected to make his first appearance in Provincial Court in Vernon on Monday, July 13.
