Surfing Okanagan Lake a 'super unique experience' for paraplegic man
Halo EFoils filmed the ride to show the Phantom board’s accessibility and support its Kelowna training programs.
Rex Hawthorne, a paraplegic man in Kelowna, recently rode Okanagan Lake's waves on a Halo Phantom efoil board. The Kelowna-based company captured the experience for their YouTube channel to showcase what is possible.
These boards act like powered surfboards, allowing riders to "fly" above the water using an underwater mast, wings, and propeller. Halo EFoils also provides rider education and training programs in Kelowna.
"Once I found my sweet spot, I found the board super stable, super easy to get up on," Hawthorne said, describing the session as a "super unique experience" fulfilling his personal goal.
"Days like this are why we do what we do," said Halo EFoils founder and CEO Carey Missler, reflecting that watching Hawthorne progress and experience his first wake was "unforgettable."
The company produced the video to demonstrate the accessibility and performance of the Halo Phantom, highlighting how Halo EFoils supports diverse riders in experiencing the sport on Okanagan Lake.
