Charle Young, who helped 49ers win 1st Super Bowl, dies at 75
Former NFL tight end Young has died at age 75, ending a 13-season career with Philadelphia, the Los Angeles Rams, San Francisco, and Seattle.
Young earned All-American honors while at USC, helping the Trojans win a national title in 1972 before his induction into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2004.
A standout rookie All-Pro, Young earned Pro Bowl selections in his first three seasons with the Eagles and later helped the Rams reach the Super Bowl after an NFC title game win against Tampa Bay.
Young joined the San Francisco dynasty under coach Bill Walsh and quarterback Joe Montana, scoring the first playoff touchdown of that era during the team's Super Bowl runs.
After one final season in San Francisco, Young concluded his career with three seasons in Seattle, retiring following the 1985 season with 418 catches across 187 NFL games.
