Strictly Come Dancing dismisses major change reported to 'ruffle some feathers'
The BBC has confirmed the 2025 Strictly Come Dancing series will maintain its traditional format without the proposed switch-up week or fan voting, despite prior reports suggesting changes.
- Reports from The Sun claimed Strictly Come Dancing would introduce a 'switch-up' week, but the BBC said, `This story isn't true.` ahead of the September 20, 2025 launch.
- Ireland's Dancing With The Stars introduced the switch-up in 2019 after US success, and insiders told The Sun on Sunday it will last one week with fans voting partners.
- The cast announcement coincides with reports that the 15 contestants have been confirmed, including George Clarke and Ellie Goldstein, while the Met Police investigate one arrest and claims of drug use by two dancers.
- Contrary to Sun reports, viewers will not be asked to vote for pairings as Strictly Come Dancing will proceed in its usual format, a BBC spokesperson told Devon Live: `This story isn't true.`
- Following earlier scandals, producers introduced welfare measures including in-rehearsal welfare staff and dedicated producers, plus further training for crew, and former pro Ian Waite suggested an all-star series to refresh the format.
