Stevie Wonder Wants Ex Out of L.A. Home After 38 Years Rent-Free | EURweb | Black News, Culture, Entertainment & More
The singer seeks removal and damages after his attorneys say a decades-long rent-free arrangement ended over access for an insurance inspection.
Music icon Stevie Wonder has filed an eviction lawsuit against Carmen Efferson, a former fiancée, seeking to reclaim a Los Angeles property she has occupied rent-free since July 1988.
The legal action follows a dispute over an insurance inspection this summer, when Wonder's representatives attempted to enter the property and Efferson allegedly refused access, potentially jeopardizing coverage.
Communications grew heated when Efferson accused an attorney of having a "racist cold-blooded" attitude in an email; Attorney David Huff responded by noting the lawyer was neither white nor male.
After Efferson allegedly failed to vacate by August 27, 2026, Wonder is now asking a judge to order her removal and award damages and legal expenses.
This eviction dispute mirrors past celebrity real estate battles, including Usher's 2012 conflict with ex-wife Tameka Foster over a Georgia mansion and Porsha Williams's recent divorce dispute with Simon Guobadia over Atlanta property access.
