Steelers' Aaron Rodgers says he plans to retire after season
Rodgers said discussions with Mike McCarthy, Omar Khan and his wife helped him decide to return for one more season.
On Wednesday, Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers announced the 2026 NFL season will be his final year. The 42-year-old confirmed his 22nd season will be his last, stating, "This is it."
Rodgers signed a one-year, $25 million contract to return to the Steelers, largely driven by the hiring of head coach Mike McCarthy. Reuniting with McCarthy, his coach for 13 seasons in Green Bay, felt like a "full circle" moment.
After the NFL draft in Pittsburgh, Rodgers made his final decision following conversations with Steelers general manager Omar Khan and McCarthy. He had initially considered leaving after the 2025 season.
During recent voluntary organized team activities, Rodgers described the atmosphere as surreal. He called the moments "pinch me" experiences unfolding over the last few days.
Entering his 22nd season, Rodgers holds 5,696 completions and a 65.1% career completion rate. He currently leads all active NFL players in passing yards and touchdowns.
