Mass. Candidates for Governor Clash over State Police Union Endorsement
The union said its contract was negotiated through mediation and arbitration and called Minogue’s corruption claim false.
The State Police Association of Massachusetts is demanding an apology from Republican gubernatorial candidate Mike Minogue after he alleged the union traded its endorsement of Governor Maura Healey for a favorable labor contract.
In a social media post Saturday, Minogue alleged a secret deal for an 18% wage increase over three years, claiming the Healey Administration engaged in a "quid pro quo" to secure the endorsement.
SPAM President Brendan Murphy called the allegations "categorically false," stating the contract provides 11% raises over three years, consistent with other state unions and negotiated through mediation and arbitration.
On Monday in Framingham, Governor Healey dismissed the accusations as "more lies and nonsense" and defended her work with law enforcement throughout her career as attorney general and governor.
With Election Day approaching on November 3, this dispute underscores the high stakes of the race as both campaigns battle for law enforcement support in the final week before voting.
