DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (KFGO-KZZY) — During a court hearing in Devils lake Monday afternoon, Ramsey County State’s Attorney Daniel Howell informed the judge that the state would be appealing an order granting Werner Kunkel a new trial. Last month, District Judge Daniel Narum ordered a new trial for Kunkel. He was convicted in 1995 of murdering Gilbert Fassett in 1986. He was sentenced to life in prison.
