New 'Stargate' Show Cancelled at Amazon MGM
Amazon MGM Studios ended the planned revival after internal reviews found it might not draw viewers beyond the franchise’s core fanbase.
- On June 2, Amazon MGM Studios canceled its highly anticipated Stargate revival series, abandoning the project despite issuing a direct-to-series order in November 2025.
- Executives reportedly pulled the plug because they feared Blindspot creator Martin Gero's creative direction would struggle to attract audiences beyond the franchise's dedicated fanbase.
- Gero spent two years developing the series, aiming to create a 'jumping-on point' for new viewers while respecting canon established by the 1994 film.
- Longtime franchise executive producer Joseph Mallozzi disputed the studio's reasoning on social media, asserting the team was 'ever mindful' of creating a show with broad appeal.
- Amazon MGM Studios retains the Stargate intellectual property, and Gero continues developing content under his existing deal with the streamer despite this iteration's cancellation.
