Drake Maye, Wife Ann Michael Host Inaugural MayeDay Celebrity Softball Classic in Worcester
The Maye Family Foundation added $1,000 for each ball hit over the fence, helping push donations to $94,000.
On Sunday, New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye and his wife, Ann Michael Maye, hosted the inaugural MayeDay Celebrity Softball Classic at Polar Park in Worcester, drawing nearly 10,000 fans to benefit Boston Children's Hospital.
Organized by the recently formed MayeDay Family Foundation, the event aimed to assist children and families enduring hardship. Ann Michael Maye said the couple has "grown to love this place" and wanted to give back to the community.
Festivities included a home run derby and softball game that raised $174,000 for hospital oncology and child life programs. The couple presented an initial $80,000 check before donating $1,000 per derby home run and $2,500 per game homer.
Team Sox, led by cornerback Christian Gonzalez, defeated Team Patriots 17-16 in a competitive seven-inning matchup featuring professional athletes including San Jose Sharks forward Will Smith and former Bruins captain Zdeno Chara.
Maye expressed interest in expanding the fundraiser in future years, saying "I think we got a great crowd and team of players this year." He attributed participation to the strong bond he and teammates maintain both on and off the field.
