Calgary Stampeders Kicker Rene Paredes to Retire After 2026 CFL Season
The 41-year-old kicker leaves as Calgary's all-time leader in several categories after 15 seasons, including 649 field goals and 2,535 points.
On Tuesday, the Calgary Stampeders announced that kicker Rene Paredes, a two-time Grey Cup champion and five-time CFL all-star, will retire at the end of the 2026 season.
Signing as a free agent in 2011, Paredes spent his entire 15-year career with Calgary, becoming the longest-serving active player on the roster.
The 41-year-old from Caracas, Venezuela, ranks second in franchise history with 253 games played, 2,535 points, 649 field goals, and 547 converts.
Paredes will play his final regular-season game on October 17 at McMahon Stadium against the Lions, stating, "This wasn't easy, but I've made the decision that this season will be my last."
Throughout his career, the kicker connected on 87.7 per cent of field-goal attempts and 94.6 per cent of converts, helping Calgary win Grey Cups in 2014 and 2018.
