Stamkos Shootout Goal Leads Predators over Lightning 5-4
On Saturday, former Lightning captain Steven Stamkos scored the tying goal and the shootout winner, leading the Nashville Predators to a 5-4 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Nashville snapped a five-game losing streak in overtimes and shootouts, having struggled to secure victories in games extending past regulation this season before Saturday.
Goaltender Justus Annunen, in his 83rd career game, stopped all four Lightning penalty shots in his first career shootout, while Stamkos recorded his 246th career power-play goal, tying Phil Esposito for sixth in NHL history.
Head coach Andrew Brunette praised the performance, saying "Obviously, I thought we played a really good hockey game," and noted he whispered tactical advice to Stamkos because "I know he knows Vasilevskiy."
The Predators host the defending Stanley Cup Champion Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday, November 3, while the Lightning travel to face Detroit the same night.
