Spanish village gathers for memorial Mass for train crash victims
Investigators are looking into the cause of one of Europe's deadliest rail disasters this century.
This morning, the church in the Spanish village of Urda was packed during the funeral service for the victims of the train accident that took place last week. “We are united in prayer for all the victims and for the families who know nothing about their loved ones: it must be so difficult and heavy,” said a resident of Urda. At least two people fainted during the mass and were treated by the emergency services.
Local residents and officials gathered on Saturday in Urda, in the centre of Spain, for a mass in tribute to the victims of the collision between two high-speed trains. The accident on Wednesday near the village killed at least 69 people.
