Employment in Spain has grown to record levels, partly as a result of the large-scale legalization of undocumented migrants. For the first time, the country has an average of more than 22.5 million people employed, an increase of 3 percent. Thousands of migrants who were already in Spain but working without papers received residence and work permits this year, enabling them to officially sign their first employment contracts.
The process of extraordinary regularization of immigrants started in April has added a total of 262,475 members of the Social Security.
