South Park’s Trey Parker & Matt Stone Address Endless Delay on $100M Movie With Kendrick Lamar
Trey Parker and Matt Stone said they still believe in the musical comedy after repeated delays and its removal from Paramount’s release schedule.
- Paramount removed the untitled musical comedy, internally known as Whitney Springs, from its theatrical release slate last November. The film is a collaboration between South Park creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone and rapper Kendrick Lamar.
- Parker and Stone issued a statement accepting responsibility for delays, citing "South Park and life's circumstances" getting in the way. The pair recently renamed their show South America in a satirical jab at Donald Trump.
- The musical comedy carries a Paramount commitment exceeding $100 million and reportedly includes original, unreleased music by Lamar. The plot follows a Black man working as a slave re-enactor in the Midwest who discovers his white girlfriend's ancestors once owned his.
- Sources say the film faced significant rewrites and reshoots, complicating post-production. Parker, Stone, and Lamar maintain creative control under their deal, leaving filmmakers responsible for finalizing the project from their production banner, Park County.
- While the film remains unfinished and undated, the creators stated they "still believe in the project." It marks Parker's first feature as director since Team America: World Police in 2004.
