South Korea's exports of chips and chip equipment rose to a new record in August thanks to massive demand driven by the AI boom. According to the Ministry of Commerce, those exports increased by 209 percent year-on-year to a value of $46.7 billion. This makes the chip sector account for nearly half of South Korea's total exports.
Due to increased investment in the artificial intelligence industry, semiconductor exports reached an all-time high of 46.65 billion dollars in August. This is the 5th record streak of the year. Computer exports also reached a maximum due to rising NAND prices, but exports of automobiles and ships declined due to a decline in production. The overall trade balance achieved a surplus of $34.7 billion.
