Judge Grants Bond for Suspended Palm Beach Clerk of Court, Michael Caruso, Accused of Intra-Familial Child Sex Abuse
Judge A. James Craner said the evidence was not strong enough to keep Michael Caruso jailed and imposed strict release conditions.
On Friday, Circuit Judge A. James Craner granted a $160,000 bond to suspended Palm Beach County Clerk Michael Caruso, who faces multiple felony charges including child sexual abuse.
Following his August 18 arrest, Gov. Ron DeSantis suspended Caruso from office after authorities alleged he abused a young relative during 2024 and 2025.
Challenging the investigation, defense attorney Donna Rotunno noted the child was questioned 11 times, while Judge Craner acknowledged flaws despite finding FDLE Special Agent Reuben Roach largely credible.
Condemning the decision, the Florida Attorney General's Office called the order 'appalling' and vowed to seek immediate review, while Caruso must surrender his passport and avoid contact with victims.
Caruso's name remains on the ballot for November's election after the Palm Beach County Supervisor of Elections received no withdrawal, and he is scheduled for arraignment on September 8.
