South African fashion retailer Truworths' full-year profit slips
Truworths said retail sales fell 0.9% to 21.8 billion rand as higher fuel costs and weak UK demand hurt spending.
On Thursday, South African fashion retailer Truworths International reported a 2.6% decline in full-year profit, citing a challenging consumer environment that weighed on annual performance.
Group retail sales declined 0.9% to 21.8 billion rand as higher fuel costs in African business segments squeezed discretionary spending, though gross profit margins remained steady at 51.3%.
Headline earnings per share fell to 732.2 cents for the 52-week period ended June 28, down from 752.1 cents a year earlier, reflecting weaker full-year performance.
Truworths cut its final dividend to 153 cents per share from 170 cents, while the Johannesburg-listed stock dropped 4% to $3.02 by 15:05 GMT as investors reacted.
Trading conditions remain difficult amid weak economic growth and cautious consumer spending, but the group continues to invest in its business and remains well positioned for eventual recovery.
