Smith Nets 2 as Sharks Rally for 3-2 Win over Vancouver Canucks
Will Smith scored twice and Yaroslav Askarov made 23 saves as San Jose erased a 2-0 deficit in the third period.
On Thursday at the SAP Center, the San Jose Sharks defeated the visiting Vancouver Canucks 3-2 in a come-from-behind victory. Will Smith led the offense with two goals, helping the Sharks overcome a two-goal deficit.
The Canucks established an early 2-0 lead, with Drew O'Connor scoring in the first period and Liam Ohgren adding a second goal late in the second. The Sharks trailed by two until midway through the third frame.
Will Smith sparked the comeback with a power-play goal, followed by a second strike assisted by Macklin Celebrini. Just 11 seconds later, Mason Marchment scored the winning goal for San Jose.
Late in the third period, the Canucks pulled goaltender Leevi Merilainen to create a 6-on-4 situation. Despite the extra attacker, Vancouver could not score, and the Sharks held on for the win.
The Canucks now head home for a Halloween clash against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Goaltender Leevi Merilainen stopped 21 of 24 shots in the loss, as Vancouver snapped a 10-game losing streak on Tuesday in Anaheim.
