Guardians and Rays Each Make One Switch for AL Championship Series Rosters
The Rays seek their first World Series berth in franchise history, while the Guardians try to end a title drought that dates to 1948.
- On Monday, the Tampa Bay Rays will host the Cleveland Guardians at Tropicana Field for the opening game of the best-of-seven American League Championship Series.
- Tampa Bay reached this stage by sweeping the New York Yankees in the Division Series, while Cleveland rallied from an 0-2 deficit against the Chicago White Sox to become the 11th team to achieve such a comeback.
- With budgets of $90.5 million and $75.5 million respectively, the low-payroll clubs rely on strong pitching, with starters Drew Rasmussen and Foster Griffin anchoring their rotations.
- Advancing to the World Series represents historic stakes for both teams: Cleveland seeks to end the longest active title drought in Major League Baseball, while Tampa Bay pursues the first crown in its 29-year history.
- "You have to always find a way how to win," Guardians slugger Jose Ramirez said, while Rays manager Kevin Cash noted both clubs share similar fundamental approaches to the game.
