Sister remembers brother who died saving her service dog in California creek
Robert Solomon III died after jumping into Rock Creek to rescue his sister’s 5-year-old service dog, authorities said.
On Sunday, Robert Solomon III died at Rock Creek Bridge in El Dorado County while jumping into the water to save his sister's 5-year-old service dog, Sammy.
Authorities say the swimming area beneath Rock Creek Bridge contains a powerful hydraulic current, often described as a "washing machine" effect, that traps swimmers and makes escape difficult.
Hapoy-Clipper jumped in to reach her brother, struggling against the current to pull him to shore. She attempted CPR, but Robert did not survive.
A GoFundMe has been created to support the family during this time, while the 5-year-old service dog, Sammy, remains missing following the incident.
Through her grief, Hapoy-Clipper emphasized that her brother was not being reckless. "He jumped in there to save my dog," she said.
