Shuswap RCMP respond to 'chaotic scene' on Highway 1 after semi hits truck and camper trailer
Investigators suspect inattentive driving after the semi hit a parked truck and RV trailer, leaving one occupant with non-life-threatening injuries.
- On Tuesday, Sept. 1, a westbound semi veered off Highway 1 in Malakwa and hit a parked pickup and trailer just after 4 p.m., prompting a response from the Sicamous RCMP and Sgt. Murray McNeil.
- Mechanical failure forced the pickup truck and trailer to park on the highway shoulder; the semi veered off the road at highway speed, causing extensive damage to both vehicles.
- Paramedics and an Emergency Health Services Air Ambulance arrived on-scene while the highway closed to traffic. Two occupants of the pickup were uninjured; one person in the trailer sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
- Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, but authorities suspect inattentive driving by the semi operator caused the incident. The semi driver sustained non-serious injuries.
- Sgt. Murray McNeil noted it is "extremely fortunate that there were no fatalities or serious injuries" following the collision, describing the scene as a "chaotic scene.
