Shoppers 'devastated' as McVitie's discontinues sweet treat after 40 years on shelves
McVitie’s said the new version uses cocoa-flavoured icing and a 23g bag, while the recommended retail price stays at £2.30, The Sun reported.
After 40 years on shelves, McVitie's has discontinued its Milk Chocolate Iced Gems, replacing the treat with a new version featuring a cocoa-flavoured topping instead.
Pladis, McVitie's owner, told The Sun the change ensures Iced Gems Chocolate Flavour is "in line with the rest of the range," aligning appearance and taste across products.
On Reddit, disappointed fans slammed the change, with users claiming McVitie's "have totally ruined them!!" Some said they are "genuinely devastated" at the product modification.
Despite the flavour change, individual bag sizes increased 4g, from 19g to 23g, while the recommended retail price remained £2.30, according to The Sun.
Expanding its product lineup, McVitie's launched White Hobnobs in June with 232g packs retailing for £2.25, now available in Morrisons stores.
