Shocking Moment Lewisham Road-Rage Driver Deliberately Runs over Cyclist
The court spared jail after finding the attack caused severe head injuries and imposed tagging and a nightly curfew for 12 months.
On Tuesday, Joseph Hedley, 39, received a two-year supervision order at Edinburgh Sheriff Court after pleading guilty to assaulting cyclist Iain Brown, 34, causing a fractured skull and brain bleed.
The attack occurred on September 20, 2024, in the Cowgate, when Hedley grabbed Brown by the throat and threw him to the ground before fleeing with his partner, leaving the cyclist unconscious.
Brown required emergency treatment at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh after losing consciousness, with medics deeming his injuries "very much to the potential of danger to Mr Brown's life."
Procurator Fiscal Faith Currie stated Hedley has been "brought fully to account," condemning road rage incidents and noting the assault could have had "more devastating consequences."
Solicitor Calum Turner argued Hedley "did not intend to inflict the injuries Mr Brown suffered" and has not driven since the incident, while the court imposed a curfew between 7pm and 7am.
