Shocking charge for former teacher at prestigious girls’ school

Victoria Police charged the former teacher with one count after the school stood him down, investigated concerns and later terminated his employment.

  • On Monday, Methodist Ladies' College principal Julia Shea notified families that former teacher Kam Kenny-Jones was charged with three counts of sexual assault of a child aged 16 or 17.
  • The College terminated Kenny-Jones in September after identifying breaches of its Staff and Student Professional Boundaries Policy and Child Safe Code of Conduct following "serious concerns."
  • Victoria Police arrested the 32-year-old Thornbury man on Saturday following warrant execution; he was bailed to appear before Ringwood Magistrates Court on December 2.
  • Shea personally contacted parents of students who had classroom contact with Kenny-Jones, noting the news was "confronting and concerning for our community" while ensuring support services were available.
  • According to Victoria Legal Aid, individuals in positions of authority or supervision in Victoria can face sexual assault charges involving minors aged 16 or 17, even if consent is claimed.
