She was found dead in a shallow rural river. Authorities don't know why 37 years later
She was beaten and strangled, and investigators said they are still unsure where she was killed or how she reached the river.
Minnesota investigators are actively seeking new information regarding the 1989 murder of Heather Lamperd, whose body was discovered in rural Chisago County, roughly 45 miles from her Minneapolis workplace.
Lamperd was last seen leaving the Northern States Power Company in Minneapolis at roughly 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 2, 1989, when her grandmother Carolyn Devenport grew alarmed at her absence from their scheduled evening meal.
Investigators recovered her body from the knee-deep waters of the Sunshine River near North Branch, Minnesota; the 110-pound woman had been strangled, with only $1.14 found in her pocket.
Police theorize someone picked up Lamperd in Minneapolis during her commute, as she did not own a vehicle, though detective Todd Rivard told the Star Tribune in 1989 they were not close to an arrest.
With the case remaining unsolved, the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension and the Chisago County Sheriff urge anyone with information regarding Heather Lamperd's death to contact the sheriff at 651-257-4100.
