Seven Sentenced for Smash-and-Grab Raids Stealing £146,000 from London Luxury Shops

Seven men linked to a criminal network were sentenced for stealing £146,356 in coordinated raids on luxury stores using vehicles and sledgehammers over four months in 2025.

  • On Tuesday, all seven defendants pleaded guilty and were sentenced at Kingston Crown Court: Christopher Gibbs, 43; George O'Hare, 42; Paul Hughes, 42; Anthony Munday, 40; Lee James McCready, 46; Matthew Windrass, 50; and David Rigelsford, 37.
  • Over a four-month period the network targeted high-value stores, stealing more than £100,000 in goods, with total losses of 146,356.
  • CCTV footage captured raiders smashing shop fronts using bricks, sledgehammers and a Ford Fiesta, while Gibbs used a 'paving block' to smash Clarendon Fine Art's locked door.
  • Sentences ranged from suspended terms to multi-year jail terms: Christopher Gibbs received six years imprisonment, Paul Hughes five years, David Rigelsford three years and nine months, Lee James McCready and Matthew Windrass two years each, and Anthony Munday two years suspended plus 150 hours unpaid work.
  • The Flying Squad said its fast-paced inquiry linked the attacks using vehicle movements and CCTV analysis, and the Met reported robbery down 6.9% across London.
