See Cher’s Rare Met Gala Return After 11 Years
Cher returned to the Met Gala red carpet in Burberry, with a look inspired by her 1974 Bob Mackie gown and styled by Patti Wilson.
On Monday, Cher returned to the Met Gala red carpet for the first time in over a decade, wearing an all-black Burberry ensemble designed by Daniel Lee that paid tribute to her iconic 1974 gown.
The singer's 1974 appearance in a sheer Bob Mackie dress sparked controversy, but Cher joked that while she "upset" people with the "naked" look 52 years ago, it has since become a trend.
Stylist Patti Wilson collaborated with Lee to create the look for this year's "Fashion is Art" theme, featuring a silk tulle dress, leather corset, and crystal-embellished jacket.
"I love to see people expressing themselves," Cher told Vogue, noting that this year's theme provides encouragement about the "next generation coming up" in fashion.
This appearance marks her first on the carpet since 2015, when she accompanied designer Marc Jacobs, as the 79-year-old prepares to celebrate her 80th birthday later this month.
