Jefferson Rojas Posts Huge Night For Red-Hot Ponies

Jefferson Rojas. (Credits: South Bend Cubs on Instagram) Jefferson Rojas has begun his time in Binghamton with a bang hitting .304 with a .969 OPS. After going 3-for-4 in Binghamton’s win on August 8, Rojas helped Binghamton score 16 runs on August 11 by going 3-for-5 including his first home run in the New York Mets’ organization. Rojas drove in three runs and scored two. Thanks to Rojas, among several others, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies have now won eight games in a row. The final score on Tuesday was 16-4. Rojas likely will not be a .300 hitter going forward but his 84.8% zone contact rate, 15.7% strikeout rate, and 24.2% whiff rate all point to an above-average hit tool that should help give him a good floor for the future. In their most recent write up Baseball America described Rojas as an advanced contact hitter that does not have platoon issues, has average swing decisions, and takes quality at-bats. In Binghamton Rojas has already taken reps at shortstop, third base, and second base. Rojas is rule-five eligible and has already played 135 games at Double-A. Could he see a promotion to Triple-A in the near future? President of baseball operations David Stearns has not been against aggressively promoting prospects. Carson Benge only played 32 games at Double-A while A.J. Ewing only played 46. Benge went on to play 24 total games at Triple-A before getting the call to the majors while Ewing played only 12. If Rojas continues to perform in Double-A could he see a quick promotion to Triple-A? And if he performs there, maybe, just maybe, there is an outside chance he could get some run in the majors before the end of the 2026 season. He will need to be added to the 40-man roster in the offseason and a look this year could be an audition to make the 2027 Opening Day roster.
