With a radiant smile, Ulrich Siegmund in Saxony-Anhalt lets the image of the AfD as a party of radical right-wing citizens of anger be pearled off. Program and staff speak a different language. The goal is also not the coming Sunday, but 2029.
Led by Ulrich Siegmund, the extreme right is far ahead of the polls in this East German state and, if you get most votes on Sunday, it will be the first time you will rule a German state since the end of World War II.
On Sunday 6 September, the German extreme right relies on a regional success to creditise his promise of a "national surprise". Between nostalgia of the East, disappointment towards the conservatives and overall rejection of the elites, whole sections of the electorate lean for the list led by Ulrich Siegmund.
